Patenting Outside Finland

The granted patent is only valid in that country in which the patent has been applied for and in which the patent has been granted. At the moment, there is no “supranational” patent. However, international agreements have given rise to patenting systems that facilitate the handling and management of the patent application process in different countries. The most important international agreements are the Paris Convention, the International Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), the European Patent Convention (EPC) and the London Agreement, which relates to translations.
