Strategy Workshops
The creation of an IPR strategy starts with the business strategy of the company, focusing on the idea of the company’s immaterial property as a resource that may be developed in a target-oriented way in order to gain competitive advantage, protection from competition and increase in value.
The purpose of the IPR strategy is to integrate the management of innovations and other activity related to IP with the company’s business strategy. The aim of the IPR strategy is to cover all areas of the company’s immaterial property.
In an IPR strategy workshop, policies concerning for instance the following subjects are drafted:
- innovation process and management of rights,
- protection of one’s own immaterial property,
- asserting both one’s own rights and the rights of others,
- organization and decision-making in IPR matters,
- budgeting IPR investments, and
- management of rights within the company and in cooperative relationships.
According to the created IPR strategy guidelines, an IPR policy can be defined, which provides the necessary tools for instance for making decisions over protection as well as for avoiding and handling infringements of IPR rights. A patenting plan and a protection plan for trademarks/design are then formulated based on the IPR strategy and policy.
