Patent Attorney, Partner

Patent Attorney Jaana Hämäläinen (Ph.D.) handles the patenting of inventions related to biotechnology, molecular biology, medicine, chemistry and plants both in Finland as a registered patent attorney and internationally. She makes freedom-to-operate analyses, performs novelty searches and gives statements. She also acts as a technical expert in patent litigations. In addition, she lectures at seminars in the field.

Jaana has worked at BORENIUS & Co since 2000 – in 2010 she was appointed as a partner. Earlier she worked as a researcher at universities in Finland, Sweden and the United States. She has also carried out internship at the European Patent Office.

Jaana’s Ph.D. concerned plant pathology. Especially, she concentrated her research on gene mapping and molecular biology. In addition to her mother tongue Finnish, Jaana’s language skills include Swedish, English and German.

Jaana is a member of the Association of Finnish Patent Attorneys, and she was the secretary for the association’s chemist group during the years 2005 to 2008. In addition, she is a member of the following associations: FICPI, the Finnish Association for Industrial Property Rights and the Association of Finnish Chemical Societies.

In her spare time Jaana enjoys rowing, skiing, jogging and literature.
